Nicknamed the’canvas caravan’, I designed it based upon an Ifor Williams LM146 goods trailer. The deck is floored in western red cedar decking planks and is supported on 4 galvanised steel box sections that slot into the existing box sections on the Ifor Williams chassis, wind down trailer legs slot into these providing a very sturdy base. The tailgate folds down providing a set of steps. The tent was again professionally made by Bond Fabrications in Stroud and is based upon their Safari tents / tented lodge design; see their website for more details. The materials they use are of the highest specifications and particularly suitable to both the UK climate and for permanent year round use. The tent consists of 2 wooden king posts and a ridge pole in the centre and marquee style poles at the sides. The ridge pole stands at around 2.7m high when the tent is up and the sides are around 1.3m high. I imagine it could easily sleep 8 – 10. The sides are made from very heavy weight canvas and the roof is made from PVC There are windows in both sides and the front with blinds. The trailer itself is 2008 vintage and was just a couple of years old when I bought it for the project. When packed up the trailer is overall just 100mm wider that the standard LM146 and is around 1.2 metres high from the base. The Tent takes about 40 mins to erect, it is heavy work for one person but relatively easy for two or three, I will give full instructions to the new owner on how to safely put it up and take it down. My kids have enjoyed sleep overs in it in our garden over the last few years, but as time has gone on I haven’t used it as much as I would have liked, I have been too busy to go anywhere with it and haven’t had enough time to progress the project or finish it off. I have various bits and pieces including a wood burning stove yet to be fitted that I can include if the price is right. There is some room for improvement. I fabricated a prototype rear tailgate / steps to test the concept but I never got round to getting them made properly – they aren’t galvanised like the rest of the trailer and are looking rusty / let it down a bit. The tent has been up for the last 2-3 years including through the storms this winter and certain parts could do with renovation – the poles could do with sanding down and re-varnishing. The headboard tent end has turn buckles to fix it the the headboard but i never got round to fixing them. There are various other improvements and additions that I had in mind all can be discussed with potential buyers. The trailer would be great for a glamping business with the benefit that it can be taken down at the end of the season, alternatively it would make a great exhibition or market stall / many other potential uses. The tent can be viewed in Chippenham Wiltshire – it is currently down / packed ready for transit but I will arrange to put it up for truly serious buyers.
