Overland Expedition 4×4 Trailer. I have loved this trailer; it’s been a good, reliable friend and eminently capable. It tows effortlessly at motorway speeds and competently over the toughest terrain. But now I need space and my lifestyle has changed so this is a great opportunity for someone else to enjoy it. By the way, if you fancy a Pinzgauer 710K hardtop petrol 5 seater to tow it, a friend has one available! This heavy duty trailer has more than enough capability for you and your party to travel the remotest parts of the world. There are almost too many great things designed in to it for me to remember them all when listing the specification, below. This is not a low quality thin metal camper or DIY rusty army trailer conversion. This is exceptional engineering from a factory which builds for military, rescue services and special forces. There are a few minor items for the new owner to consider refreshing, listed at the end. You could do nothing, or everything, probably over a weekend. In overview, the trailer has a 3CR12 stainless steel chassis (as used by Volvo truck and bus), heavy duty running gear, 304 stainless steel storage bins, fuel and water tanks and kitchen with extra large double bed roof tent and side, plus de-mountable kitchen tent and more awning. This rip-stop nylon tenting is fitted to a stainless steel frame on 4 hydraulic struts which raises the tenting to give cavernous 3.3m tall accommodation and easy access to the storage bins. Friends have described it as’cathedral-like’. It’s the largest Desert Wolf available even bigger than it looks! The central storage and rear kitchen bins can be easily removed by unlatching lockable clamps to provide a useful flat bed trailer! Everything is so strong and well built with sturdy welding that carrying and strapping extra loading is no problem. We have even had a rigid hull inflatable boat on top. With a max on road 1.8T and 2.5T axle, you’ll never run out of capability! > Stainless steel C section 3CR12 chassis. > 2500kg heavy duty braked axle. > Many Al-Ko components. Land Rover PCD hubs and track for easy towing (it is possible to change these hubs to match the PCD of your towing vehicle to allow easy interchange of wheels when away). > Land Rover Defender rims with as new 7.50R x 16 Goodyear Wrangler AT tyres and un-used spare wheel. > Leaf springs, offroad shocks and unique trailing arms for high speed towing stability (as required by emergency services). > 360 degree rotating 50mm auto-reverse tow hitch. > Can easily be loaded and used at much lower gross weights. > Handbrake with breakaway cable (plus non-road use HD chain). > Heavy duty jockey wheel with separate horizontal stowage mount for extra ground clearance when towing off road. > Two rear adjustable locking stainless steel stands for camping stability. > Approximate basic trailer dimensions. L = 3.6m. W = 1.7m. H = 1.8m closed and packed. Level trailer, tow hitch = 0.6m. > All storage bins have rubber seals and adjustable tension stainless steel lockable lever latches. > Large single RHS demountable lockable 304 stainless steel bin approx 1.8m x 0.56 x 0.48. Demountable lockable stainless steel bins approx 0.9m x 0.53 x 0.48. Pair of fixed wheel arch. Saddle bins approx 0.98m x 0.35 x 0.4 max tall. > Front x-y baffled 304 stainless steel tank between chassis rails currently used for fuel, around 80 litres – convenient filler with lower drain tap. Rear x-y baffled stainless steel tank between chassis rails used for drinking water, around 90 litres – convenient filler with lower drain tap under kitchen. This important baffling provides complete towing stability with partial fill, stopping the’slopping’ about of the contents. Threaded outlet valves to allow easy secure connection to other piping or Hozelock for shower or fuel pumps, etc. Rear locking opening stainless steel kitchen box. Kitchen door has rubber seals and adjustable tension stainless steel lockable lever latches. Comprehensive food storage boxes. 2 ring gas cooker on folding base, allowing chopping board storage. > Water tap beneath LHS of kitchen, drains from baffled c. Cutlery, plates etc for 6 persons built in. Herb and spice racks built in so you can eat tasty! Space for your own bits and pieces. Approx 103cm wide x 55cm high. Main tent base frame lifts easily on 4 gas struts and is securely pinned at height. Tarp cover is unzipped and tent rotates on stainless steel frame about the LH edge of trailer (doubling the width). Double bed space approx 2.1m long x 1.4m wide and 1.4m max headroom. Bed is not folded like small rooftents, this base is a full-size double with mattress. Brand new un-used 4′ 6 double mattress. Rip stop nylon canvas throughout. Fully fitted heavy duty ground sheet. Room for two more adults to sleep undercover. The bed level has 3 mosquito netted closing windows including fully opening large window. Large front and rear doors, complete with separate zipped internal mosquito netting. Velcro fastening for rolling up the open doors. The bedroom is fully closable and has useful zipped sidewall to allow access to the storage bins if required. Tenting folds out a further approx 2.1m from trailer. Huge full-size side mosquito netted window, providing open awning on poles. Camlock canvas poles (store in large bin), pegs and guys. Overall ridge height a massive 3.3m from ground. Very airy and’open’, no dim canvas illumination when windows and awnings are used. Bed level about 1.95m from ground when set up. Bed ladder and removable frame to stop you falling out. Extra demountable tent fits at either end of trailer (nose or kitchen) with clips and velcro to be weathertight. > Photos 2 and 10 show the kitchen tent added to the bedroom tent. Adds another 2.1m length at the full 3.3m ridge height. No groundsheet in this area. Complete with zipped door and mosquito sheet in the end wall. This area will easily sleep two more people. Amazing approx 2.5m usable awning when the kitchen rear wall is unzipped and lifted on to camlock poles. This setup is then an amazing 8m or more long; it’s very easy to entertain large groups under cover if it’s raining. Rear locking gas bottle holder and bottle, next to kitchen. Quick release regulator and hose easily stores back into kitchen after use. Adjustable locking spare wheel clamp on A-frame behind nose cone fits most sizes. > Un-used Goodyear Wrangler AT wheel. Locking stainless steel battery box on front RHS. Hella sockets around trailer chassis. 12N towing connection with lights, fog and front white/rear amber side marker lamps. 12S linked to heavy duty Anderson connector for leisure battery charging from vehicle. Locking, heavily insulated stainless steel nose cone ice box. Designed for dry ice to keep contents cold for several weeks. Drain tap on underside to empty at end of trip. No DC fridge/freezer, but it would be easy to carry and power from the trailer’s on board battery. Locking stainless steel jerry can holder at front RHS. Heavy duty offroad wheel clamp included. All storage bins and components are lockable with stainless steel latches throughout. > Various other useful things that are packed away, including 6 litre foam fire extinguisher, Portaloo and so on. WORK TO REFRESH TRAILER. The trailer is ready to go, but there are some things that the new owner may wish to undertake to bring up to new condition over a short period of time. I detail everything I can think of, but I stress that nothing is urgent or could not be completed over a weekend. > The tent tarpaulin which encloses the closed bed is split with age and either needs to be replaced, repaired or just covered with your own tarp. (I now have a loose tarp over the lot to protect it). > The wood base of the bed could be tidied up due to damage from the leaky tarp mentioned above. This could be a piece of marine ply or water resistant MDF placed on top of the insulated wood base under the mattress. It’s not urgent as there is a stainless steel frame supporting the bed. > The ratchet handbrake mechanism is very stiff (not the brakes) and needs basic repair inside the handle / push button release. > The oak kitchen storage has hinged vertical holders on the right for cutlery, spices etc. One lower holder has broken small hinges which need to be replaced, possibly requiring removing the wood backing plate. This is only a nuisance in use as storage/security is not impacted. > As part of normal maintenance, I might re-proof the stitched canvas seams and possible the canvas. WHY HAVE A TRAILER? If you haven’t experienced an overland camping trailer but just packed your 4×4 until you can’t move, here are some of my experiences and benefits. Trailer can be packed all year ready for any trip at no notice. Plenty of room left in your tow vehicle for passengers and comfort. Once set up, you can leave the trailer and go exploring. Easy to set up for pit-stop on your journey – just un-zip tarp, pull tent up and over, place a couple of heavy objects in bedroom corners and, voila! Trailer carries your spare water and fuel. Total expedition loading is spread over 3 axles (4×4 and trailer). The trailer follows effortlessly in your 4×4’s tracks. You don’t have to setup and take down your camp every day. Built-in kitchen makes eating really quick and easy. Bulky bedding, pillows and more can stay on the bed when the trailer is closed and therefore it is always ready for a sleep! Because so much is already built-in and hidden, there’s loads of capacity for your own stuff. The ultimate trailer to show off when you’re at shows, festivals and campsites; you’ll meet new friends! If you’re still wondering… I take my honesty and feedback seriously. If this trailer is not as described or as you hoped, you don’t need to have it. Please don’t hesitate to contact me for further information or a Dropbox VIDEO of me walking around the trailer. The trailer is fully operational with road lighting and brakes, so you can collect and drive away. If you would require it delivered a long distance at cost plus a sandwich! I can deliver at cost around UK or to Europe (eg ports in France, Netherlands, Germany etc).
